Nutrition Counseling
Nutrition Counseling
At SweetLeaf, we offer an array of nutrition counseling options, provided by our in-house certified nutritionist, Rich. There are few things that determine our health more than what we eat, if any! Eating for our health has the power to eliminate many of our illnesses by either reversing them or preventing them all together! Rich specializes in determining a personalized diet for you based on either your blood type or a full genotype workup.
Rich will meet with you and go through your current diet. He will assist you in identifying problems within your diet and work with you to create a new menu based on your specific dietary needs and/or health problems. Rich will provide you not only with initial support and guidance, but also follow-up help, educational materials and useful information on your journey to better health.
Our goal is to create a diet for you that will help you achieve better wellness, and give you the support needed to continue maintaining your dietary changes.
What should you expect?
Nutrition Counseling starts with an initial interview. During this interview, Rich will ask you about your dietary habits. If you would like, you can come prepared with a typical diet or a food diary from the past week, or even few days, so Rich can get the best idea of what you are eating and how it may be effecting your health.
After going over your typical diet, Rich will ask you what physical or mental challenges you may be facing. The more thorough you are about your issues, the best Rich can serve you. These may include things like insomnia, anxiety, lethargy or PMS, to name a few. This also included any illnesses or diseases such as cancer, glaucoma, fibromyalgia, or even psoriasis, to name a few.
Rich has invaluable information to share with you about how the food you are eating can vastly improve or hinder your life.
The Blood Type Diet
Rich has personally been using the blood and genotype diets in his own life and has seen the amazing impact these diets have had on his life and the lives of his family members. The blood type diet was created by Peter D’Adamo in 1996 and is used to help determine what foods you are eating that negatively affect people with your blood type. Some blood types are older than others. “O”, for example, is thought to be the oldest blood type. Many, many eons ago, everyone was an “o”. This is when we were all hunters, and a diet high in protein was the norm. So people with “o” blood types need a diet high in protein and low in processed foods. As the human race advanced, more blood types developed, partially due to the diet that was being consumed. Each blood type has different dietary needs and different foods that they should avoid, some of which will surprise you!
Genotype Diet
One step beyond the blood type diet is the genotype diet. This requires an even more in depth initial counseling session. Rich will
measure different aspects of your build and couple that information with your blood type and typical diet. He will determine what your genotype is. There are 6 genotypes, each with its own distinct physical characteristics. Once your genotype is determined, a diet can be created for you that assists your gene’s interaction with the environment. The study of this relationship is called epigenetics. Based on your epigenetics, Rich can help you improve your ability to maintain your optimum weight, repair your body on a cellular level, avoid or reverse illness, and achieve longevity. Basically, this diet allows you to turn on the genes you possess that have positive attributes and quiet the “negative” genes you have.
