Sputnik 1.0 is a classic seed variety from TGA Subcool Seeds that is no longer available for sale from the breeder. It is primarily a sativa hybrid at about 70% sativa dominance. The parents of this strain are Apollo 13 and Black Russian. Sputnik grows fairly dense flowers for a sativa. They mature with a slight purple-pink hue. This strain brings together the fruity, berry flavors inherited from Black Russian with the spicy and peppery scent of the Apollo to create a very unique sweet and spicy flavor that has to be experienced. Sputnik 1.0 carries an uplifting sativa type of effect while still retaining a considerable amount of the pain management properties typically found in hybrid or indica varieties like the Black Russian, itself a cross between AK-47 and Blackberry. Uplifting enough for morning or afternoon use, but also mild enough to not keep you awake at night, this strain has been a primary choice of mine for years in the area of pain management or nausea. Triple Diesel is around 85% Sativa and 15% Indica. It’s a back cross of
three phenotypes of Sour Diesel. If you like Sour D you will love
this! Very energetic and definitely great for daytime usage. These
small to medium sized buds are dark green with hints of dark purple and
light green. The trichomes make the medicine look like it’s lightly
dusted in keef, but is not! The high for me makes me feel medicated
but very aware and motivated. All in all an amazing, get your day
started, earthy yet sour Sativa!
Blackberry Ear Wax- If you have never tried Ear Wax Hash, as a patient or marijuana connoisseur, it’s definitely something to check off of the bucket list before you go. Ear Wax Hash is an extremely flavorful, extremely potent super extract of our beloved medical marijuana. There are a few ways to go about actually making the concentrate, but, to give you a clear idea of what Ear Wax Hash actually is; Ear Wax Hash is essentially hash oil that has been “whipped and dried.” Hash oil alone is the most concentrated form of medicine in the market today.
SweetLeaf Compassion Center has a variety of strains available. All varieties are arguably the best that Colorado has to offer. The strain of Ear Wax Hash that came forward as the ALL -STAR/MVP for my tastes was the Blackberry.
The Blackberry strain itself is a mystery medicine. What that means is that the genetics are unknown or a breeder’s secret. In the case of Blackberry, what is known of this strain is that it was grown from seed discovered in a mystery bud from Northern California by a breeder named SomAblaze. Characteristics of Blackberry that make it unique are, it’s flavor, it’s color and the buzz it gives to anyone that medicates with it. Blackberry has a very mild earthy yet sweet flavor, coupled with a buzz that is extremely relaxing and euphoric without causing too much drowsiness. The look of the bud is one of a kind, especially SWELL Farms Blackberry. The bud is nearly entirely purple; completely frosted and flaking with keif and finished with a delicate light green freckled across the rest of the bud and stem. SWELL Farms has taken and made beautiful earwax from an all around amazing strain.
Smoking the earwax is like having the power of the Blackberry flower medicine but concentrating that power and multiplying it by 10. Same wonderful taste and smell but packed into few tiny golden blonde nuggets the size of grains of rice. Earwax is easy to handle, manipulate, and apply to bowls. Earwax can be eaten, smoked alone, placed on top of grinded bowls of medicine like croutons and/or sprinkled in pre-rolls or blunts. Just a little bit goes a long way and packs an enormous punch. – Celena
Sage and Sour is the perfect kind of sativa for me: tight, dense, light green nuggets with amber- colored hairs and milky white tricromes that make the medicine sparkle. I can taste the sage when I inhale and the diesel flavor comes through on the exhale. This medicine has an amazing flavor but diesel seems to somehow overpower the taste of the sage after a few puffs. The effect gives a strong body and mind feel, yet is uplifting at the same time. Sage & Sour is not overpowering like some sativas can be. One of my favorite sativa smokes by far! -Kelli
Lemonhead is crossed with Island Sweet Skunk and Lemon Skunk, and by merging these two potent strains together we’re left with a heady yet energetic and enriching Sativa dominant (70% -30 %) blend. The effect for me is an uplifting initial head rush, followed by an overall sense of calm and heightened awareness. In other words, I’m ultra sensitive to any and all stimuli, but without any of the anxiety sometimes associated with sativa dominant strains. The buds are large, and relatively dense with a heavy dusting of crystals along with bright orange hairs blanketing the nuggets. Lemonhead smells and tastes like lemons and spice with an overwhelmingly strong “lemony” flavor on the exhale; almost as if you were sucking on an actual Lemonhead candy. The smoke is smooth and mellow, and if I could come up with any negative, it would be that the burn is so tasty and uplifting that I seem to smoke it pretty fast. As I always say, it’s subjective when it comes to the effects of certain strains on individuals, but overall, Lemonhead combines the best of both worlds for me: An uplifting mind feel along with a relaxing overall body effect. MK-Ultra is crossed with O.G. Kush and G-13, (the govt. strain), and these powerful strains combined make for a potent yet euphoric and uplifting indica. The effect for me is a commanding body high that leaves me with a lucid yet inspirational mind feel. In other words, I’m calm and relaxed yet I feel like I can think clearly. The buds are tight, dense and light green with a heavy coating of crystals accompanied by light amber to brown hairs jacketing the flower. It smells and tastes like fresh herbs and spices with a tiny trace of citrus in the back of the throat. The smoke is not too harsh and puffing this strain all day long doesn’t wreck the lungs like some other harsher varieties. It’s typically subjective when it comes to the effects of certain strains on individuals, but overall MK-Ultra combines the best of both worlds for me: a solid body high coupled with a functional and clear headed mind. Sour Diesel When a conversation arises involving which are the dominate strains of cannabis, there’s no telling what someones “headiest” strain choice is going to be due to the abundance of choices in the world today. I still discover new strains that I feel are top shelf on a regular basis, but one strain that reigns supreme and that has been consistently on the top of the charts for several years is Sour Diesel. No question about it. Sour D. is a heavyweight that packs a serious sativa punch. She is always at least 90% sativa though it is common of some Sour Diesel to reach 100% sativa. Although the genetics of sour diesel are unconfirmed, there are several sources stating it to be ChemDawg ’91 x Massachusetts Super Skunk x Sensi Seeds Northern lights x DNL Northern Lights Shiva x Hawaiian This strain’s accomplishments exceed the expectations of what a top shelf strain is supposed to deliver. Along with several awards at multiple cannabis cups, it also received the High Times Plant of the Year award in 2005. The effects that this beautiful strain produces justify all the awards and accreditation it has ever received. If you are into a strain that gets you up and brings out the good vibes, then this is the strain for you. Almost immediately you are overtaken with an overwhelming feeling of euphoria mixed with a shot of eyeopening adrenaline. This is the only strain that enables me to produce consistent positive results and awareness in my academics. Sour D. is a mild smoke who’s aftertaste lasts 7-10 seconds. Once exhaled, your taste buds will thank you for the pungent sour flavors with hints of sweetness. Usually, the flavor of most strains will decrease half way through the bowl, but not with the Sour Diesel. The ability to savor the essence of the taste last the entire way through the bowl. All in all, the genetics speak for themselves. Certainly, Sour D. is in the upper echelon of sativa dominant medicine and probably will continue to be so for several more years to come. -Art
